Mangaluru: Department of Journalism of St. Aloysius College organized one day interactive session for the students of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayath Govt. Higher Secondary School, Marakada on the topic of Exam Preparation and Nutritious Diet on 9th February.
103 students from the classes of 6 to 8 took part in the interactive session. Mr. Yogesh S. and Ms. Carol Seema Castelino, Coordinators of Centre for Social Counseling, St. Aloysius College were the resource persons for the day. A prayer song by the students marked the beginning of the session following which the students were split into two groups and the two resource persons interacted with them separately.
The students were given a ten step preparation criteria to make exam preparation easier which included benefits of group study and importance of taking small breaks between prolonged study hours. The need to consume a nutritious diet, the various sources of vitamins and the deficiency diseases due to the lack of same were also discussed. The health risks of over consumption of junk food was also stressed on.
“We conduct several such interactive sessions for our students on a regular basis as we think it is important to create awareness among them. We have noticed that the students respond well to these sessions” said Ms Malathi, Head-Mistress.
“We make the sessions very informal so that the students will be forthcoming with their views and the interaction will be more effective. As the exams are nearing it is the appropriate time to educate the students on the ways to prepare for examinations thus building confidence in them to face them without fear or stress and to eat right.” said Mr. Yogesh S, one of the resource persons.
The programme ended with students raising questions and sharing their views on the session.
