Raghunandan held GM Deepan in FIDE Chess Tournament

Belthangady : F.M. Raghunandan KS of Bangalore held GM Deepan Chakkravathy to draw in the fifth round of Roto lawyers cup International FIDE Rated Chess Tournament 2015 jointly organized by Bar Association Belthangady and Rotary Club Belthangady held at Sri Dharmasthala Majunatheswara Kala Bhavana, Belthangady today.

At the end of 5^th round, GM Sriram Jha, IM Nitin S, IM Ratnakaran K are leading with 5 pointseach.  GM Deepan Chakkravarthy, IM Thejkumar, IM Ramnath Bhuvanesh, Arvind Shastry, Raghunandan K S, Niranja Navalgund,Anil Kumar OT and Srinath Rao are in joint second spot in four and half points.

Ninth seeded FM Raghunandan KS(2248) of Bangalore played queens pawn against top seed GM Deepan Chakkravarthy J (2477) of ICF on the top board, GM deepen opted snake Benoni variation andthe game turned into complex position in the middle game. Raghunadan managed toget piece up but experienced Grand Master played the perpetual check by knightand drew the game on 26^th move.

GM elect and second seeded IM Thejkumar (2450) of South western Railway and 11^th seeded NiranjanNavalgund played on the second board, Niranjan managed to get extra pawn in the middle game,  but could not convert toadvantage of the same. IM Thejkumar offered draw on 35^th move andagreed the same by Niranjan.

Young boy, Amey Audi (1910) from Goa drew with higher rated player, Kunal M(2351) of Tamilnadu on 7^th board in 68 moves.

Nine year old CM Nikhil Magizhnan(1677) of Tamil Nadu drew with IM Ravi Hegde (2213) of Maharastra in 34 move.
